Ideas for Projects

Neglected Doubles:
Most are optical or too far away to determine, but you can help the US Naval Observatory Washington Double Star Catalog by helping the staff determine the status of doubles not measured for years. Contact Ed Wiley or see Double Star page for Ed's techniques. Low tech, easy beginning research.

Eclipsing Binaries:
Another double star project, but we know they are true binaries. See the Eclipsing Binaries Program page.

Variable star projects:
Southern Hemisphere
BR TEL (20 23 59.90 -52 52 12.0) - ASAS Lightcurve - Nominally listed with a magnitude range of 9.6 to 10.9 but has shown one fading episode down to magnitude 12. The quoted period of 107 days is highly questionable.

ASAS 190834-4641.5 (19 08 34.00 -46 41 30.0) also in Telescopium - ASAS Lightcurve - A complex lightcurve where the data doesn't fit the quoted period of 1.32726 days particularly well. Multi-colour photometry (BVRI) might show some interesting results.

Variable star projects:
Northern Hemisphere

V1343 Aql (19 11 49.60 +04 58 58.0) - ASAS Lightcurve - A very complex system which, although faint, deserves further study.

V1413 Aql (19 03 46.80 +16 26 17.0 ) - ASAS Lightcurve - Another complex system that would benefit from multi-colour photometry.

V0669 Cep (22 26 38.70 +61 13 32) - Too far north for ASAS but a check through the literature makes this a good target for multi-colour photometry.
